Snow, snow and more snow

The first *real* snow of the season arrived today. We had plenty of warning and were prepared. Still, as pretty as it is, I'm not a big fan of the snow and all it entails. I've started my count down to spring.

To make the best of it I decided I would try out the time lapse app I recently downloaded to my iphone. I put the phone in the front window and let it run from 9 am to 5 pm. There were a few falls (read cats playing with the power cord and pulling it out of the window), the quality isn't that great and I should have put it in a window facing the back yard where the amount of snow that fell is more apparent. However, it was my first time lapse experiment and I've learned what not to do next time.

Is this my return to regular posting? I don't know. Maybe. We'll see.

In the mean time enjoy Halloween at my house:

The Day of Thunder, Lightning and Rain

The weather in Nova Scotia is always unpredictable. That's just the way it is. When you live here you know this and rarely bat an eyelid when things seem a bit odd in the way weather. (Of course this doesn't stop us from complaining about it). However on Tuesday (August 2, 2011) things were more than a little bit odd, it was down right strange.

We knew we were expecting thunder storms to roll through. But I doubt very much that anyone really expected 8 hours (or more) of heavy rain...

...thunder...

...and more lightning then I have every seen in my life.

The storm was a bit out of the ordinary. And while I do not possess a fear of thunder and lightning (personally I enjoyed the light show Mother Nature put on), I can say that I hope not to experience a storm like that again for quite some time.

Waiting for the Fireworks

Video I shot while waiting for the fireworks to start on Canada Day.

Halifax Harbour

Some of the sights on the Harbour on Canada Day, 2011.

Canada Day Fireworks

Canada Day fireworks in Halifax Harbour, July 1, 2011. I have lived within 45 minutes of the
city for 17 years now, and I believe that this is the first time I have actually gone to see them.

Slightly edited with music added.

Walking the Halifax Waterfront

Shot on Canada Day, while walking from the the ferry terminal to the farmers market and
then back to the casino.

My Trip Across the Harbour

My trip across Halifax Harbour on the metro transit ferry yesterday. Canada Day.

It's quite shaky, as the camera I used does not have image stabilization, also it was a bit windy and I was surrounded by parents and their kids not exactly acknowledging person space.

BEDA 1 - Alex and Luke Travel

I love watching travel vlogs. I prefer the unpolished videos of real people telling their stories
about travel far more than any travel show that you can find on television. I'm always on the lookout for new ones. Particularly ones made by Canadians.

Somehow today, I was lucky enough to stumble across the blog/website (here) for two
friends named Alex and Luke.

In late 2009 the duo planned a cross-continental road trip that would take them to every
province in Canada and every State in the US (except Hawaii) all in Luke's VW Golf.
Thoughout their journey they took direction from the audience following their travels on
various social media websites. They went where their audience directed and ate where
their viewers suggested. They put the destiny of their travels in the hands of people they
did not know, trusting them to not steer them wrong. Brave souls.

I've spent the evening going through various posts and videos, becoming inspired and
forming (weak, for the time being) ideas of my own travel adventure someday.

If you enjoy seeing the sites of Canada and the US through someone else's eyes check
them out.

Their latest video (part of a new project) has them in Aurora Village, Yellowknife. Despite
me hating the cold, someday I would love to see the north of my beautiful home country
and this is one of the places I want to visit.
